When we walk Matthew to school we give him a kiss and wait for him to go into the building. This morning as Ella Jane and I were sitting and waiting, she very casually told me she was going to feed her baby. (She'd brought her dolly along) When I glanced her way I had to chuckle.
She was BREASTFEEDING her baby.
Which she has done before.
But not on the playground.
While wearing a dress.
Oh for a camera to show you that priceless picture!

Quotes...
Two funny quotes from Ella Jane last night...
While choosing paint swatches at Lowe's... "I'm going to choose yellow because you know how much I LOVE lemonade!" (Which is true, she really loves lemonade)
Upon coming into the house; dinner had just come out of the oven...I think I'll eat the smell all gone because it looks delicious!
She's so funny.

Black and White...
This is my Matthew. It's either this or that and nothing in between. In the morning rush out the door for school he's telling me all about his library book which was on the kitchen counter. Except we're not out the door yet, and he's telling me how his book NEEDS TO STAY IN HIS BACKPACK.
me: well, we're home now so you don't have to leave it in there.
MJ: but mom, my teacher said it HAD to stay in my backpack.
me: I know, but we're home so you can leave it here until we need to return it.
MJ: but you have to leave in your backpack just in case you have a dog and it BITES the book (as he's putting the book in his mouth)
me: (stifiling a laugh) well, we don't have a dog.
MJ: or a BABY may scribble on it!
realizing there was no hope for me at this point, I said, okay well, then I guess you better keep it in your bag. Never mind that we don't have a dog and that our baby is starting to ROLL OVER (yeah!) not sit at the table and scribble in books.
That's my boy! :)

12 hours...
We put Matthew and Ella Jane to bed last night at 6:30pm. They were asleep by 7:00pm and slept until 7:15am this morning. With the start of full day Kindergarten for Matthew and preschool for Ella Jane they were TIRED. Whew!

Spider babies...
Ella Jane and I got a closer look at them yesterday with the stem of a leaf. I pointed out where the babies were but the mama didn't like that. She started to attack the stick and it was fun to explain to EJ that the mama was protecting her babies. Later when we went to check on them, I noticed that mama spider had moved her egg sack to the upper corner (it was clustered around the babies before we messed with her) and she was nowhere to be found. Did she go off to die? My knowledge of mama spiders goes as far as Charlotte's Web...
Success...
Matthew had a successful first full day of school! That's him waving as his class lines up to be dismissed. He had lots to share with me as he unloaded his backpack. He's all about the details and explaining to me about his folder, lunch, and silly songs he sang in class. It's only Day 2 but so far I like getting everyone out the door so early. There is a crispness in the air now and the walk up and back is so refreshing. We clip right along on the way up and then dawdle on the way back. It's a good way to start the day!

Kindergarten!
We sent Matthew off to Kindergarten this morning! And carrying on the Suyetsugu tradition from when I was a kid Matthew packed his lunch last night for the very first time. We had been talking about what he would pack for a few days so when the time finally arrived he was very excited. Such pride in his smile as he's making his own sandwhich! The picture in the front yard is taken in front of a sign that says "Matthew, Welcome to Kindergarten!" One of the Kindergarten teachers came by yesterday to post that in the grass. What a nice surprise!
On our way up to school we were met by our new friend Joshua. We turned around to hear his little voice say "HI MATT!!!" He was so excited and I thought it was cute that he called him Matt. We walked up to school which is about 2 blocks away and got Matthew situated with his locker and the table that he'd be sitting at. Jim was able to get away from campus for a minute and say goodbye as well.
Ella Jane wanted to be in all of the pictures too. She's very busy these days taking care of her baby so baby got in there too. Funny, Sara is wearing an outfit that Matthew wore as a baby and as I put her down to nap this morning I had the surreal thought that this seemed to look like Matthew and here I am five years later taking him to Kindergarten.
So the girls and I are home now. Sara is sleeping and Ella Jane has requested to do some puzzles. Time to go play!
